CIAT’s Pan-African Bean Research Alliance (PABRA) is Africa’s largest network of bean experts spanning 31 countries. Members of the network are responsible for breeding, evaluating, disseminating and safeguarding Africa’s largest collection of beans.

The Position:

CIAT is seeking to recruit PABRA Projects Officer who will be responsible for providing technical backstopping and project management support to the overall PABRA Program in Africa. The PABRA Projects Officer will work very closely with the project leaders in ensuring efficient provision of information regarding project timing and reporting as well as dissemination of project information to various stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Facilitate interactions between the PABRA Director, Network Leaders and CIAT Program Coordinator, and monitor progress with regional and country action plans  Monitoring closely project execution and providing feedback to the project leaders on the status of their projects advising them on action to be taken with regard to project extensions, budget reallocations and any other action  Following up with Lead Institutions and Partners in the project to ensure smooth flow of project paperwork  Providing quarterly graphic representation of project expenditure against approved budget in order to provide project leaders and management with a clear status of project resources  Support the PABRA Director, network leaders and CIAT Program Coordinator in the preparation of institutional reports such as Annual Program performance indicators reports  Provide guidance and/or training to project partners/sub grantees and track progress to ensure that project payments to partners are executed in a timely manner

 Following up with finance staff to ensure that quarterly project reports are done in a timely manner and expenditures are a reflection of approved project budget line items  Maintaining the pipeline of concept papers and proposals submitted by PABRA  Any other duties related to project management and program development as may be determined by the PABRA Director.

 Demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills to plan, organize, and manage resources for successful implementation of projects  Ability to analyze and establish effective and supportive cross- program coordination, organizational procedures, and management systems.  Possess excellent interpersonal skills with good facilitation and communication skills.  Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple administrative tasks with a high degree of accuracy; pro-activeness and flexibility  Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, but also participate as a team member in accomplishment of duties  Possess a positive attitude and strong administrative service orientation.  Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Qualification and Experience

 Masters’ Degree in Business Administration and BSc in Agriculture  Post-graduate diploma in Project Management  Good understanding of budgeting and financial management procedures with experience in managing and reporting on donor funded projects.  Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar position  Excellent knowledge of database applications, spread sheets, MS Project, MS office applications, and ability to learn new applications quickly  Knowledge of French will be an advantage  Excellent report writing skills

Terms of employment:

The position is nationally recruited and based at the CIAT Offices in Nairobi, Kenya. The contract will be for a two-year’ period, subject to probation period of three (3) months, renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
