VACANCY: REF KEN1142/01 Welthungerhilfe/German Agro Action is an International NGO operating in various Counties in Kenya and is currently looking for qualified personnel to fill the position of Social Business Development Manager for a fixed term period to be based at our Kakamega Field Office.
Objective of the position:
Manage and steer a newly established company (under the supervision of Board of Directors) in the area of biological pest control

Company Description and Role
The “Toothpick Company” in Western Kenya, is a Social Business with the purpose to support and promote access and adoption of biological control of Striga by using Fusarium Oxysporum f. sp. Strigae commonly known as the witch weed a parasitic flowering plant that causes considerable crop loses. This Social Business aims at contributing to improved food and nutrition security as well as to increased household income for 400,000 smallholder farmers within 5 years.
We are looking for an entrepreneurial individual who shares the development passion with Welthungerhilfe and who will act as a Social Business Development Manager of the Toothpick Company. The candidate must have both outstanding technical and management skills and should be able to work in an international team. We will honour a high level of selforganization and drive to bring this Social Business forward.
• Use knowledge of product, market and competitors to identify and develop the company’s unique selling proposition, and market it accordingly • Set up a distribution network for the company’s products and constantly monitor trends & developments to develop new distribution channels • Work with team to develop proposals for new products and services (incl. pricing) that speak to clients’ needs, concerns, and objectives • Identify and meet potential new clients and business partners to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities
• Close new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing and negotiating contracts, integrating contract requirements with business operations • Update job knowledge by keeping up-to-date on relevant research and technical development on biological pest management, and by attending industry functions (e.g. association events, conferences) to stay informed on market and creative trends
• Understand and impersonate the company’s goals and its purpose to continuously enhance the company’s performance • Direct and supervise the activities of staff; provide guidance and motivation for staff, incl. training where appropriate • Forecast sales targets and ensure target achievement • Maintain budget of company, and monitor costs against budget • Ensure high data quality in company’s CRM and other business systems; conduct meaningful analyses based on data • Maintain regular communication with board of directors, and present quarterly reports
• A Master or Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Biology or other related field; an MBA of the same will be an added advantage. • Minimum four years of previous experience in business development or project management role within the agricultural industry, 3-5 years of sales or marketing experience. • A proven ability to plan, develop and execute business development strategies. • Experience in risk analysis • A good understanding of contract law. • Demonstrated ability to work within and lead a multidisciplinary and international team • Excellent communication, listening and presentation skills • Strong background in negotiating, tendering and forecast thinking
