Brazil apps track gunfire as Rio violence spikes

Crime and violence in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro has spiked to the worst levels in more than a decade, particularly within the past year.

Public safety had improved significantly ahead of the World Cup and the Rio Olympics, but it has now become so bad that residents are resorting to unprecedented methods to stay safe.
