The SDGC/A intends to recruit an SDGs Advisor/Energy to work with multidisciplinary team of The Center and partners to address SDG 7 by ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all in Africa.

Leading and providing overall technical direction and advice on African energy agenda in planning for and implementation of energy projects across African continent. The incumbent roles will be focusing on policy formulation, advising in the preparation of work plans, project implementation and assisting in the preparation of terms of reference and review of energy related projects and technical reports in Africa.
The SDGs Advisor/Energy will provide technical support, policy, advisory and general assistance on energy with focus on following areas: –
1) Access to Energy: Ensuring African inhabitants have access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy services.
2) Share and Equity of Renewable Energy: Increasing considerably the share of renewable energy and inclusive energy mix in Africa.
3) Energy Efficiency: Doubling the rate of improvement in energy efficiency in African continent.
4) Energy International Cooperation: Enhancing and sustaining international cooperation and investments on energy initiatives to facilitate access to clean energy, research and technologies in Africa.
5) Sustainable Energy Services: Expanding infrastructure and upgrading technology for supplying modern and sustainable energy services for all in Africa.
6) Energy Finance and Economy: Establishing mechanisms for attracting energy funding and investments; advising on energy demand, supply, markets and public policies affecting energy markets with the aim to improve availability, supply and use of energy in societies to accelerate African economic development.
§ Working with design teams to develop appropriate energy solutions, liaising with companies and governmental agencies for determining energy supply needs, energy implementation site assessment and selection, discussions with local government officials to get their buy-in for deployment.
§ Developing of marketing tools describing energy projects to the local population, system deployments, leading monitoring and evaluation efforts, and training local employees on all aspects of the systems to enable continued deployments after the completion of projects.
§ Creating and maintaining effective collaboration with various stakeholders, including uses of resources provided by governmental agencies to ensure that all parties have similar expectations with a good understanding of the technical aspects of the project.
§ Liaising between the technical teams and various stakeholders for assigned projects to communicate project expectations and technical limitations.
§ Working with The Center management to develop strategies and vision for the energy sector department.
§ Developing and advocating for energy best practices, identify challenges and opportunities in the energy sector to develop a coherent strategy for future interventions for realizing SDGs in Africa.
§ Advising on various issues that affect African countries in the energy sector by playing a leading role on guiding interested governments, donors and investors on energy policy and market aspects for developing an effective energy sector.
Required Skills and Experience
Minimum of a Masters’ degree in an engineering discipline related to energy, power generation and/or distribution, a specialization in clean and renewable energy is preferable.
§ Minimum of 7 years of experience in the energy finance and economy with extensive knowledge and experience with renewable and clean energy.
§ Practical demonstrated experience in energy policy, advisory, funding and investment preferably in renewable and clean energy projects in African context.
§ Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate energy complex issues and concepts with influence.
§ Knowledge of SDGs, Agenda 2063, Common African Position on energy.
§ Be results oriented by achieving results in tight timeframe and being mission-driven.
§ Skills on renewable and clean energy outreach programs in Africa.
§ Excellent command of English (official working language of The Center), additional knowledge of French, Portuguese or Arabic would be added value.
§ Endorsed energy proposals by various donor partners and stakeholders for policy briefing, technical discussion, funding or investments.
§ Formulated technical specifications for energy projects, systems and solutions to ensure access to affordable and efficiency use of energy to accelerate African development.
§ Deployed energy solutions and technology for modern, efficient, reliable, cost-effective, renewable and clean energy to African households, businesses, industries and institutions.
§ Designed policies and conducted advisory activities for both national and regional energy bodies, pools and grids in Africa.
§ Written African energy reports, analysis and project progressive records to facilitate successful implementation and handover of energy projects.
§ Detailed records of African energy status with identified gaps and a way forward.
